ONTOFORCE today announced a strategic partnership with QIAGEN Digital Insights, the bioinformatics business of QIAGEN, that brings QIAGEN’s Discovery Knowledge Base into ONTOFORCE’s DISQOVER platform to provide pharmaceutical and biotech organizations with a more connected way to search, harmonize and interpret biomedical data across public, licensed and proprietary sources.

The integration combines QIAGEN Digital Insights’ curated biomedical knowledge graph with DISQOVER’s semantic search, exploration and data harmonization capabilities. The result is a unified knowledge environment designed to help research teams move more efficiently from target identification to translational and clinical insight.

QIAGEN’s Discovery Knowledge Base includes more than 600 million AI-derived and 24 million expertly curated biomedical relationships spanning genes, diseases, drugs, pathways, variants, chemicals, functions and related biological concepts. By integrating this content into DISQOVER, organizations can explore trusted biomedical relationships in the context of their own internal data assets, rather than relying on fragmented sources or one-off integration projects.

DISQOVER harmonizes and connects internal and external data sources into a unified semantic layer. The platform enables researchers, data scientists and business users to search, explore, visualize and trace biomedical knowledge across public, licensed and proprietary data sources. Through the integration with QIAGEN Digital Insights, DISQOVER can map ontology terms across customer data and connect them with Discovery Knowledge Base to create a more consistent, contextualized view of relevant biology.

“Pharmaceutical and biotech organizations generate and collect more data than ever, but too much of that data remains disconnected from the broader biomedical context needed to interpret it,” said Brecht Claerhout, CEO of ONTOFORCE. “By integrating QIAGEN Digital Insights’ Discovery Knowledge Base into DISQOVER, we are giving research teams a more complete view of the biology they are investigating, while reducing the burden of building and maintaining complex data infrastructure themselves.”

The combined solution is intended to support several critical research and data science workflows, including:

    • Breaking down data silos: Public biomedical knowledge, licensed data and proprietary internal data can be connected within a single semantic layer.
    • Supporting target identification and drug repositioning: Researchers can explore curated biomedical relationships alongside internal experimental and clinical data to identify relevant biological connections.
    • Creating AI-ready knowledge foundations: Data scientists gain access to structured, harmonized and traceable knowledge that can support AI and machine learning workflows.
    • Improving access for non-technical users: DISQOVER’s interface and dashboarding capabilities make complex biomedical knowledge easier to search and explore across research and business teams.
    • Supporting provenance and auditability: Relationships and data points can be traced back to their source, version and context, supporting verification and reducing the risk of unsupported AI-generated outputs.

“For more than two decades, QIAGEN Digital Insights has helped researchers interpret disease biology and turn biomedical evidence into actionable insight,” said Dominic John, Vice President and Head of QIAGEN Digital Insights. “Discovery Knowledge Base provides a trusted foundation of curated relationships across genes, diseases, drugs and pathways. By combining this knowledge with ONTOFORCE’s ability to harmonize and integrate customer data, we are helping research and data science teams create organized, accessible and AI-ready biomedical knowledge environments.”

The integration is already being used by pharmaceutical customers to connect Discovery Knowledge Base with proprietary data in DISQOVER. The partnership formalizes this collaboration and expands access to organizations across the pharmaceutical and biotech industry seeking to make biomedical knowledge more searchable, connected and actionable.

For teams seeking programmatic access to curated biomedical knowledge, DISQOVER also supports an MCP endpoint, enabling integration with existing tools and AI-enabled workflows.
