DEV team’s trip to Galway (Ireland)
For the past months, we have been working hard to make DISQOVER an intuitive and powerful search tool for linked data. In order to get the most out of the vast amounts of linked data out there, ONTOFORCE is collaborating with the Digital Enterprise Research Institute in Galway, Ireland.
DERI employs some of the top researchers in the field and bundles hands-on experience with interlinking biomedical data sets. In the middle of an Irish mini-heat-wave, we traveled to the DERI headquarters for a project meeting.
When entering the DERI building, we are welcomed by a robot arm and a macintosh computer, both state of the art technology decades ago. As computer scientists, we most certainly appreciate the way the hall of DERI is decorated.
After a productive day of technical discussions, it is time to get some good food and a pint (or two) in the cosy Quay street, which is crowded on one of the hottest days of the year.
Right before we leave the next day, we get to see the highlight of the DERI building: a room full of computers, some of which were already solving problems before we were born.We go home with interesting learnings, a clear project scope for the coming months and the idea that in Ireland, the sun is always shining.
